Vintage Phenolic Resin Bead Strand, Mixed Diamond and Round Beads - Rita Okrent Collection (AT0706)A magnificent long strand of vintage phenolic resin beads. Circa 1950's, approximately, these beads were produced in Europe for the African trade, and were made to resemble real amber (especially an issue after access to Baltic amber became limited after WWII). These beads are traditionally used as hair beads and worn in necklaces by African women, and come from Mauritania. Interesting research: the diamond shaped beads may have been carved from round
